Description

An indirectly heated, manually resetthermal overload relay. The tempera-ture sensitive unit of this relay is thesolder-ratchet type. Relay spindle is heated by motor current flowingthrough the heater element surround-ing the spindle. A sustained current,greater than the rating of the heaterelement, will raise the temperature ofthe spindle above the melting point ofthe eutectic alloy which holds theratchet wheel to the spindle. Theratchet wheel is then free to turn, al-lowing the relay to trip, and open itscontacts.About two minutes are re-quired for the solder to solidify.

OVERLOAD RELAY CLASS DESIG.NATIONS -Industry standards(NEMA Part iCS 2-222) designate anoverload relay by a class number in-dicating the maximum time in sec-onds at which it will trip when carry-ing a current equal to 600 percent ofits current rating.

A Class 10 overload relay will tripin 10 seconds or less at a currentequal to 600 percent of its rating.

A Class 20 overload relay will tripin 20 seconds or less at a currentequal to 600 percent of its rating.

A Class 30 overload relay will tripin 30 seconds or less at a currentequal to 600 percent of its rating
